Expo highlight: govdigital provides a cross-sector AI collaboration platform

The GenAI platform is neither a single AI tool nor a purely cloud-based solution. It combines technical foundations, operations, governance, security and compliance into a unified approach.

The GenAI platform establishes a common foundation for secure AI applications in public administration.

Many public sector organisations face similar challenges when implementing AI: they require secure infrastructure, legal guidance, specialist knowledge and clear rules. As a result, projects often remain at the pilot stage or are set up repeatedly at considerable expense.

The platform creates a common foundation that is supported and further developed collaboratively. Resources, experience and expertise can be shared. This makes AI projects more scalable and cost-effective.

A range of AI models and applications are supported – such as assistance systems, chatbots, text and document analysis, or solutions for internal processes. The public sector is not tied to a single provider. Different models can be deployed; control over operations, data and rules remains with the public sector.

Security, governance and reusability: data protection, information security and compliance are key components. The architecture is designed to meet the requirements of public administration. This includes data processing in compliance with the GDPR, data minimisation and purpose limitation, as well as information security in accordance with recognised standards such as the BSI IT-Grundschutz.

Clear roles, guidelines and safeguards create a reliable framework for development, operation and use. Applications can be shared, adapted and further developed within the network. This reduces duplication of effort and strengthens the transfer of knowledge between public IT service providers.

The platform does not view AI as an isolated add-on solution. Integration into existing specialist procedures, processes and working environments is crucial. In this way, AI can be deployed where it provides concrete support to staff and public institutions. The platform is currently being piloted by several public IT service providers. Interested organisations can register their interest for the next practical phase. Further information: https://genai.govdigital.de
