Digital warm-up: A look back at the first #SCCON26 webinars

Five webinars, five topics in the spotlight at the Smart Country Convention 2026. We have summarised the content, topics and outcomes of the pre-event programme for you.

The Smart Country Convention is growing – and so is its pre-event programme. In a total of five webinars leading up to #SCCON26, experts from the public sector provided exclusive insights into the digitalisation of public authorities and local authorities.

Making GovTech accessible to local authorities

On 29 April, the focus was on collaboration between start-ups and local authorities. Our webinar demonstrated how GovTech can be successfully integrated into local government practice. The start-up SummAI and the municipality of Nettethal provided insights into their joint pilot project as part of the Agentic AI Hub run by the Federal Ministry for Digitalisation and State Modernisation.

Where do we stand on the path to a digital state?

How can progress in digital policy be measured? Our webinar on 20 May used key Bitkom studies, such as the Smart City Index and the Digital Policy Monitor, to illustrate how the digital transformation in Germany can be assessed and which developments are currently shaping the public sector.

The Resilient Educational Community

In this webinar, our speakers Dr Christian Raffer (German Institute for Urban Studies) and Kolja Kaspczyk (Berlin Mitte Adult Education Centre) outlined the path towards a resilient educational community. The focus was on how local authorities can drive forward the development of secure digital infrastructures whilst simultaneously promoting digital and information literacy across all generations. Key challenges, possible courses of action and practical examples for a sustainable local education landscape were presented.

Agentic AI: a game-changer for public administration

Agentic AI offers great potential for public administration. In our webinar on 16 June, Dr Maximilian Lukas Wehage from the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernisation provided insights into current projects and developments. Participants also learnt what steps are necessary for the successful implementation of Agentic AI.

From BundID to the EUDI Wallet

BundID is the central citizen account for public administration and a key component of digital administrative services. In our webinar on 1 July, the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernisation outlined its role within the EUDI Wallet ecosystem and provided an insight into current developments in the field of digital identities.
