Speeding up digitalisation in the public sector – that is the aim of the Smart Country Convention, which will be held as an in-person event on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 26 to 28 October 2021.

After taking place as a virtual Special Edition in 2020, this year the Smart Country Convention will combine a congress, trade fair, workshops and networking events again. The focus of the three-day event is on the digitalisation of local government and development of smart cities and regions. Interested visitors can register now for the event, which is free, and can take a first look at the programme. “Digitalising government at every level is a marathon event and we are in the midst of it. Ministries, city halls and local governments are called upon to actively help shape the future. We can offer them the know-how, inspiration and contacts“, said Dr. Bernhard Rohleder, managing director of Bitkom. “The Smart Country Convention has established itself as a meeting place for practitioners, pioneers and decision-makers from the public sector. It is our contribution to leading Germany into the digital age.“

The Smart Country Convention gathers representatives of business, politics and municipalities. The object is to learn from the experiences of the best, speed up digitalisation and implement it according to people’s needs. Jens Heithecker, executive vice president of Messe Berlin: “The vaccination campaign is gathering pace. We are confident that we will be able to hold the Smart Country Convention as an in-person event in late October. After being locked down for so long, people have a huge desire to meet face-to-face and exchange views. We are happy to be able to satisfy that demand and provide opportunities for getting information, learning and networking – in-person at hub 27 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.“
