Smart Country Convention to take place as a virtual event

▪ Trade fair and congress for the public sector will present digital solutions in a virtual format

▪ Focus on E-Government on 26 October and smart cities on 27 October

Digitising local government and developing smart cities – those are the aims of the Smart Country Convention. The fourth edition will take place on 26 and 27 October 2021 as a virtual event. This was announced today by the digital association Bitkom and Messe Berlin. The move comes in response to requests from the industry and participants. On 26 October 2021 the focus will be on E-Government, and on 27 October on smart cities. The programme will be streamed live, and the virtual format will enable participants to network and exchange views. “In Germany digitisation of the public sector and local government is still in its infancy and still has a long way to go to catch up with other countries. There is no time to be lost in confronting this subject. That is why, despite the coronavirus pandemic, the trade fair is taking place again this year, but as an entirely virtual event – in order to offer inspiration, know-how and an opportunity to build contacts“, said Bernhard Rohleder, managing director of Bitkom. “Particularly with the forthcoming elections this year, the Smart Country Convention will provide an important impetus for taking Germany into the digital age.“

The Smart Country Convention gathers representatives of business, politics and municipalities. The object is to learn from the experiences of the best, speed up digitisation and implement it according to people’s needs. All services are available online again this year. Jens Heithecker, executive vice president, Messe Berlin: “Naturally, we would have liked to hold the Smart Country Convention as an in-person event. However, we are unable to offer our exhibitors and partners the necessary planning certainty. With the Special Edition we want to give participants a virtual platform for exchanging views. It is in times such as these that the topic of digitisation of the public sector is more important than ever. Whether lectures by experts or exhibitors’ product presentations on E-Government and smart cities – the Special Edition provides a deep insight into the possibilities that digitisation offers.“

For those interested, registration for the Smart Country Convention Special Edition is open now free of charge. For more information visit www.smartcountry.berlin
