Lars Christoph Schmelz received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the TU München in 2000. From 2001 he worked as research engineer at Siemens Mobile Network on concepts and demonstrator implementations for 3G RRM and SIP/Mobile IP-based service architectures for radio access. From 2003 he started establishing Operation, Administration and Management (OAM) for mobile radio networks as research topic within Siemens, with working on various projects on radio networks self-management and management automation in the following years. He continued this work within Nokia Siemens Networks and Nokia. His current work focus at Nokia Bell Labs is on Self-Organising Networks and Cognitive Management for mobile networks, and on the interworking between 5G network slicing and network management automation. Lars Christoph Schmelz participated in the EU FP7 projects SOCRATES (2007-2010, WP lead on self-configuration and -healing) and SEMAFOUR (2012-2015 technical manager and WP lead on integrated SON management). He is currently project coordinator for the EU H2020 research project 5G-MoNArch (2017-2019) on 5G mobile network architecture.
